Stuart Powell founded SP Training Solutions in 2004, building on a diverse and dynamic career. Before entering the world of training, Stuart worked in commercial sales, gaining valuable business insight and communication skills. He later joined West Yorkshire Police, where he spent many years in operational policing before being seconded to National Police Training. During his four years there, he developed and refined his skills as a professional trainer.
Stuart has since delivered conflict management and personal safety training to a wide variety of sectors, earning a reputation for his clear, practical approach and deep subject knowledge. His background in high-pressure frontline roles allows him to connect with learners at all levels, making his sessions both credible and impactful.
Ben has been delivering engaging, high-quality training with us since 2005. A retired firefighter with many years of service at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Ben went on to work as a Health and Safety Manager for a local authority—giving him a broad and practical understanding of safety across different environments. He now delivers a wide range of health and safety courses and carries out fire risk assessments for our clients. Ben is known for his enthusiasm, sense of humour, and his unique ability to bring training to life. His sessions are not only informative but also entertaining, making him a firm favourite with clients across all sectors.
Del has been a key part of our training team since 2010, bringing with him extensive real-world experience and a natural talent for teaching. A retired firefighter from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Del spent several years as a trainer at their dedicated training centre, where he honed his skills in delivering effective, hands-on instruction. His clear, concise teaching style, combined with a great sense of humour and easy-going manner, consistently earns praise from clients. Del’s approachable nature and depth of knowledge make his first aid sessions both informative and enjoyable.
John joined our team in 2012 and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role. With a background as a registered nurse and former GP practice manager, John has a deep understanding of medical care and first aid best practices. He also serves as a Community First Responder with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, keeping his skills sharp and up to date. Known for his in-depth knowledge and friendly, approachable style, John delivers first aid and moving & handling training that is both informative and reassuring. His ability to connect with learners and explain complex topics clearly makes him a trusted and respected member of our team.
Simon has been a valued member of our training team since 2015 and brings real-world experience from his role as a serving firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. As part of his duties, he regularly trains fellow firefighters in first aid, which translates into practical, up-to-date knowledge for our clients. Known for his sense of humour and easy-going attitude, Simon creates a relaxed and engaging learning environment that puts people at ease.
Wendy joined our team in 2015, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her career as a firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. During her time in the service, she was actively involved in training colleagues in first aid—skills she now shares with our clients in a clear, practical, and approachable way. Wendy’s friendly and likeable nature makes her a firm favourite in the training room, creating a welcoming environment where learners feel comfortable and confident. Her dedication and warmth have made her an integral part of our team.
John has been part of our training team since 2007, bringing decades of frontline experience and a passion for teaching. After a career in the army, John went on to serve as a firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, eventually retiring after a long and fulfilling career. During his time in the fire service, he spent several years at their training school, specialising in first aid instruction. Today, John not only delivers engaging first aid courses but also leads our virtual fire marshal training. Known for his friendly approach and great sense of humour, John creates a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment that our clients consistently praise.
With decades of experience in team development and customer service, Roger Powell brings a rare combination of wisdom, insight, and energy to every Teambuilding session. His approach blends knowledge with engaging, thought-provoking delivery that leaves a lasting impact. Roger’s sessions are not only enlightening but also highly entertaining, ensuring that teams stay motivated and inspired.
Since around 2010, Roger has also been a key member of Tarantara, an auditioned mixed choir based in the Midlands. He brings his passion for singing and music to the Teambuilding sessions, creating a truly unique experience. Although many participants are new to singing, Roger always puts people at ease, using his musical enthusiasm to foster a welcoming and uplifting atmosphere.
As the father of founder Stuart Powell, Roger has been instrumental in shaping the core values of our business from the beginning.
